Candlenut aka Buah Keras


Ground candlenuts are used to thicken curries.
It is highly toxic in its raw state.

If candlenuts are not available, substitute with macadamia nuts.

By "highly toxic" I think you mean that it does the work of Ex-Lax with the power of Drain-O. This is how the ancient Hawaiians used candlenut that they called "kukui." It is the Hawaii state tree. When roasted and ground it is used as a seasoning along with seaweed, rock salt and cubed, raw tuna in dish called "poke" (pronounced as the Spanish would po-que), a kind of ceviche.
